This Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding effort and leadership in policy/advocacy-related/technical activities that improve the welfare of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS and/or who has improved the delivery of prevention/care and support/systems strengthening services to individuals and communities affected by HIV/AIDS in Uganda. Specific activities in this category may include, but are not limited to, demonstrating leadership or outstanding effort in promoting legislation that improves the welfare of all people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS; improving the delivery of prevention services to individuals and communities affected by HIV/AIDS; advocating for the rights of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS; advocating for the delivery of HIV prevention services to undeserved populations; challenging the discrimination and harassment of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS; advocating for funding of HIV services; increasing the recognition of the need for professional organizations to include HIV/AIDS-related issues in their policies and procedures, individuals who have contributed in program support, service delivery, systems strengthening, and policy support

Entry Guidelines

The following criteria will be considered and assessed in reviewing the nominees:

  • The recipient must have demonstrated a long-term commitment to the AIDS movement in Uganda for not less than 5 years of operation.
  • The recipient will have demonstrated their leadership either throughout Uganda or within their local community in Uganda.
  • For Organizations, Awards are open to only organizations registered in the country that have worked for a minimum number of 5 years towards HIV&AIDS
  • Anyone may submit a nomination
  • Multiple submissions of a single nominee will not be given any additional consideration.
  • The selection committee shall, where appropriate, use their own means to verify claims, therefore, nominations must provide full contact details of themselves and their nominee(s)
  • Staff and Board Members of Uganda AIDS Commission and Ministry of Health are not eligible for the award but they can nominate outstanding performers outside UAC

Submission Requirements:

 All nominations must include the following information: name, organization and full contact information of the nominee, as well as completed questions in the nomination form; along with a nomination statement explaining why the nominee should be considered for this award (maximum 500 words). The nomination statement should provide specific examples explaining how the nominee has demonstrated commitment to work having a direct impact on HIV/AIDS.

The names of award recipients will remain confidential until they are announced at the Awards ceremony.
